The Concern

School crowding is a major resident concern because new housing can increase enrollment even though the City Commission does not operate Volusia County schools.

What Deltona Can Actually Control

The School Board governs schools. Deltona participates through planning, school concurrency, development review, intergovernmental coordination, and advocacy.

Advocacy Commitment

My Current Commitment

I will not pretend a City Commissioner can order a school built. I will work with the School Board and use the City’s lawful planning and concurrency role to make school-capacity impacts visible during growth decisions.

Proposed Actions

  • Publish plain-language explanations of school concurrency on major residential growth decisions.
  • Coordinate growth projections with the School Board.
  • Advocate for capacity where enrollment data demonstrates need.
  • Include school impacts in major growth-impact reviews.

School concurrency rules, enrollment/capacity, projected residential growth, mitigation agreements, and interlocal coordination.
